Do you have a studio?

I currently do not as I specialize in natural light photography.

Where do you shoot your sessions?

I typically shoot Senior and Family outdoors at one of my preferred locations in Concord. All newborn sessions are held in the child’s home.

When do you schedule newborn sessions? What if the baby arrives late or early?

What we do is put you on our calendar for your due date and then reserve time before and after that date in case the baby comes earlier or later. Once you deliver, you contact us as soon as you can and we pick a firm date for the session within the 2 week post delivery window.

Why do you photograph newborns so soon after delivery? Can’t I schedule a newborn session when they are a month old?

The main objective of newborn sessions is to have the baby sleep as much as possible, therefore, newborn sessions are scheduled for no later than two weeks after you deliver (preferably within the first 10 days). The reason for this is that babies tend to be very sleepy and more amenable to posing when they are just born. After 2 weeks, they have longer periods of wakefulness and are more disturbed by the posing and photographing. Additionally, baby acne, reflux and colic tend to show up after two weeks. This, of course, makes sessions longer and more challenging. I know it is hard to believe but babies that are older than 2 weeks at the time of their session date are much more awake and disturbed during their sessions. It is for this reason that we are very firm on the 2 week timing.

When do you shoot your sessions?

For senior and family sessions, I prefer to shoot sessions when the light is at its best. This is typically an hour or two before sunset and just after sunrise. I try to avoid midday sessions as the sun is bright and high in the sky causing subjects to squint. Newborn sessions are generally held in the mornings at the studio.

What happens if it rains?

In the event of rain, your outdoor session will be rescheduled to a mutually agreed upon date/time.

What Should I Wear?

This is a very common question from clients booking family and senior sessions. Simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits that aren’t easily dated. I suggest solid colors, avoiding busy patterns, stripes or logos/words. Bold logos and cartoon characters are cute for playtime, but can look out of place for your child’s portraits. Jeans, sun dresses, khakis are classics and photograph well. I especially like boys in jeans and plains tees or polos, and girls in simple dresses, tunics and leggings. Accessories can add a great amount of visual interest to your photos. Think hats, scarves, belts, and layers. Bare feet are especially fun, and capture the essence of childhood. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. However, dressing the entire family in the same outfit (i.e. white shirts and khakis) tends to limit the look and feel of the session. I suggest bringing a few outfits that you are considering and allow me to help you make the final choice on what would best suit the look and feel you are going for in your child’s portraits. Most clients prefer to have 2-3 wardrobe changes during a session. At the end of the day, you should dress yourself and your family in clothing that makes you most comfortable and captures who you are. As always, please feel free contact me for further questions on clothing.

What forms of payment do you accept?
